Happy
Friday,
Joy!
The
original
presentation
for the
response
to you
for
SSA's
proposal
to
suspend
Mx Xxxx
for two
days was
supposed
to be
TODAY,
Friday,
January
15.
I can
understand
now why
you didn't
want us
in RO
for a
face-to-face
presentation:
there
was a
two hour
party
(on duty
time, I
assume)
for the
1200
employees
who work
in the
Regional
Office.
Field
Office
outsiders
like
myself
and Mx
Xxxx
would be
a
barrier
to your
participation.
Besides,
we might
tell our
co-workers.
What
would the
Field
Office
staff
think
about a
two hour
party
for RO
folks
who
don't
the
pressure
of
phones,
face-to-face
interviewing
and
constant
harassment
from
their
supervisors
for
status
on
various
lists
and
constant
enjoinders
to
"Get
these
cleared
by
Friday
or tell
me why!"
You
know,
where I
come
from, in
the
Field, twenty-five
year
employees
are told
in the
morning,
"I'm
so sorry
to hear
you have
breast
cancer!
You
concentrate
on
getting
well!'
and then
in the
afternoon
are told
by the
same
supervisor,
"Your
PERCs
are old.
If you
don't
clear
them by
Friday,
this is
going on
your
permanent
record!
... Oh,
by the
way,
here is
the name
and
phone
number
of the
person
in RPO
who
handles
Arkansas.
They can
give you
an
estimate
for
retirement
since
you
really
can't
work any
more."
(Not a
very
subtle
hint to
get out
instead
of
taking
the
1,000
plus
hours of
sick
leave
the
employee
has.
After
all, the
office
has
goals to
make and
lists to
clear.
An
employee
getting
chemo
and then
a
mastectomy
isn't
going to
help
"the
team"
make
those
goals).
In
Oklahoma,
employees
who ask
for an
extension
of
maternity
leave
are
told,
"If you
can't
work,
you have
to
submit a
resignation."
(By the
way,
that
employee
had only
used
about one-half
of the
225
calendar
days of
maternity
leave
guaranteed
by the
contract.
As I see
it,
the peons
in the
Field
are
toiling
away
under
constant
threats,
while
the
chosen
thousand
plus in
the
Ivory
Tower are
having a
good ol'
time.
These
are the
worst of
times
for
Field
Office
employees.
I'm glad
they are
the best
of times
for
y'all.
Never
has so
few, had
it so
good!
I'm glad
that the
hard
work of
the
Field
Office
employees
is so
handsomely
recognized
and
rewarded
in
Regional
Office.
We
wouldn't
have
been
able to
do it
without
you!
I am
also
glad to
know
that
some
where in
SSA
employees aren't
suffering
workload
pressures
and
constant
threats
to their
jobs and
financial
security like
the decent,
hard-working
employees I
represent!
Well,
enjoy
this
afternoon's
party!
Since the
presentation for
today was
postponed,
since
we won't
be
interfering
with the
festivities,
I again
reiterate
my
request
for
a FACE-TO-FACE
presentation.
We will
come to
you in
RO, we
are
certainly
willing
to work
around
the
busy, RO
party
schedule.

PS: Why
can't
Field

have two
hour
holiday
celebrations
in the
middle
of the
afternoon?

I don't understand why you don't want to meet face-to-face.
The price of greatness is responsibility... Winston Churchill as noted in the quote Tonya includes with her signature.
Even Winston Churchill walked among regular, common people and shook their hands. He went to them. The best pictures of him aren't in the halls of Parliament, but walking in the rubble seeing the Londoners who were blitz survivors. He wanted to demonstrate that he shared their plight and suffering. If RO folks are going to be holding up Winston Churchill as one of their ideals, I think they should walk the walk, in addition to talking the talk.
We know you are too busy to take a day to travel to XXXXXXXXX . We are willing to come to you. I don't understand your aversion is to looking an employee in the eye and shaking their hand? You know even condemned prisoners get to see the face of their executioner.
Perhaps since you are too busy to meet with us, perhaps since you too busy to respond to emails such as this which are sent to you, you are simply too busy to give Mx. Xxxx’s response the time and deliberation it deserves. I would certainly be willing to make Mx. Xxxx’s response to a different management official who has the time / who is willing to make the time; preferably a management official who knows her, who knows her dedication to the public we serve, who knows her impeccable reputation and isn't afraid to see her as a person, as opposed to a disembodied voice over the phone.
DM XXXX and OS XXXX in XXXXXXXXX interviewed several XXXXXXXXX employees; they looked them in the eye and decided no discipline was warranted. Those employees got to present themselves and explain themselves to the persons who were deciding their fate. You are deciding Mx. Xxxx’s fate, I think she should have that same opportunity.
